The Educate Action Group had a lot of fun putting our heads together providing our expertise for a First 5 Center early childhood education outdoor play yard that will be located on the City of Fairfield’s North Texas Recreation Facility and Park site.

The project is currently being designed by CALA’s Valley office. Once complete, it will include inclusive playgrounds, multi-use sports courts, fitness areas, a multi-use field, picnic facilities, connections to the Linear Trail, and, now…the second location for First 5 Solano center!

When First 5 Solano was scouting areas for their second location, they knew equity was a priority. The neighborhood, in which the North Texas Recreation Facility site is located, was identified as showing high risk factors for overall child well-being. This led First 5 Solano to partner with the City of Fairfield, and in turn, CALA being asked to provide designs for the play yard.

Since the early childhood education outdoor play yard is a specialized space, the project team brought in the Educate Action Group for support in developing the plans. During an internal design charrette, we rolled up our sleeves, distributed plans, gathered inspirational imagery and jumped straight into sketch mode. Once finished, we shared our ideas with the project team. Fast forward a year, the team is wrapping up the construction documents and we can’t wait for the project to break ground later this year!

The North Texas Recreation Facility/Fairfield First 5 Center will go a long way in lifting this community up and serving those most in need, and CALA is proud to be part of the team, building community in Fairfield.
