Callander Associates and an expert team of consultants developed a Feasibility Report to determine the possibility of constructing park improvements on this closed landfill. This study identifies what park improvements are recommended for the different areas of the landfill and at what points in time it is feasible to construct the various improvements, as they relate to landfill integrity and compliance with closure plans. This report will be a key tool used in all future phases of the park development. The park will feature: bocce courts, basketball courts, parking lot, a trailhead with public artwork, interpretive signage, and a stabilized unpaved pedestrian access trail for portaging small boats to the river. Additionally, Sutter’s Landing includes a three-acre dog park for which Callander Associates provided design development, permitting, construction documents, bidding and construction review services. In support of the City’s goal to become more sustainable, the park features many green elements such as recycled mulch and decomposed granite, which does not require watering or mowing.
