Through a series of workshops, Callander Associates and Town Staff identified community priorities and arrived at a preferred plan. Today, the park includes a synthetic turf soccer field, a restroom/concession building, picnic space, a 41-space parking lot, and a small play feature. Creekside Park’s stormwater treatment requirements were integrated into the design of the park such that no programmable space was lost to stormwater treatment provisions. Incorporation of self-treatment within the turf and pavement sections made this possible. The park also incorporated conventional stormwater treatment measures such as porous asphalt, permeable pavers and biofiltration swales. The park has been recognized by the Silicon Valley chapter of the APWA and the Santa Clara Valley Urban Runoff Pollution Prevention Program (SCVURPPP) for the contribution that it makes to the community while simultaneously addressing stringent stormwater management requirements.
The realization of Creekside Sports Park is a testament to the staff of the Town of Los Gatos to support the residents’ desire for more sports fields. What was once an abandoned corporation yard is now one of the most highly coveted athletic fields in the community.
