The City of San Jose is a long-time proponent of green practices and this newest San Jose branch library is no exception.
Designed with sustainability as a top priority, the site incorporates such sustainable design features as water-efficient, climate-appropriate plant selections as well as two infiltration basins near the building that divert, slow, and filter stormwater runoff through ornamental grasses. In addition to assisting the prime architect with strategizing for LEED certification, Callander Associates developed site plan alternatives for vehicular and pedestrian circulation and construction documents for pedestrian pavement layout, planting, and irrigation. The recently completed project was awarded LEED® Gold in 2011.
