To allow for construction to be largely complete before football season, the targeted bid date was scheduled for March 2006 – this meant that Callander Associates had to finish design for $10M worth of improvements in four months! Core improvements included artificial turf fields and resilient rubber running tracks as well as retaining walls, fencing, track and field amenities, landscape enhancements, accessibility upgrades, and sophisticated drainage and stormwater detention systems designed in compliance with recent SWRCB mandates.
Despite the limited window, plans were completed on schedule and a low bid within 10% of the estimate was obtained. Though the contract was awarded in March 2006, the unseasonably wet winter delayed significant work on the facilities until June. In spite of this, all but one of the five facilities were delivered to the District according to the original project schedule.
