What seemed like an unremarkable stretch of road was transformed into an award-winning project that has improved the overall aesthetics and design of the area.
This one-mile stretch is the primary thoroughfare between downtown Stockton and the Stockton Municipal Airport and also serves as the City’s southern gateway. Callander Associates was tasked with the challenge of developing an iconic entry, meeting the community’s desire for a more pedestrian-friendly street while integrating the new landscape and pedestrian feel into existing adjacent uses. Now, pedestrians and motorists alike are greeted with a new landscaped entryway and gateway sculpture as well as a fully developed side planting strip, new sidewalk, curb ramps and crosswalk improvements, street lighting, planted and irrigated medians.
