Callander Associates has been working
with Sacramento Regional Transit District and Capitol Area
Development Authority (CADA) since the preliminary design
phase of the project, which included the design of improvements
at both the 13th Street and 16th Street Regional Transit Stations
located in the R Street Corridor. Improvements for these stations
include the installation of new ADA compliant mini-high platforms,
custom designed shade shelters, signage, lighting, and landscape
upgrades.
One of the biggest challenges was the limited budget which
put a constraint on highly desired elements which included
new custom designed shade shelters at each station. To solve
this challenge, Callandar Associates decided to use pre-engineered
and pre-manufactured shade shelters. This cut the cost of
design phase engineering costs for the project, therefore
allowing more of the budget to go towards other improvements
on both stations. Callandar Associates was able to manage
the public's expectations with the help of Barry Wasserman
(CADA's community facilitator) at several public workshops
held near the site.
Construction documents are now being finalized for the project.
Callander will continue to work closely with Sacramento Area
Regional Transit, the Capital Area Development Agency (CADA),
adjacent landowners, and other stakeholders to ensure that
each station's design enhances the visitor's experience and
compliments the urban fabric in which it is located.
