Hesperian Corridor   back | previous | next

The San Lorenzo Village Homes Association, eager to continue planning efforts within this approximately one mile stretch of Hesperian Boulevard, sought and was awarded a Metropolitan Transportation Commission TLC planning grant. The awarded grant allowed the association, and the County of Alameda, to hire Callander Associates to complete a community based master plan. The recapturing of the pedestrian environment and creating an identifiable timeless character for the community were two main goals of the project. Through a series of intensive stakeholder design charettes and a trio of community workshops a plan emerged with expanded sidewalk areas, plazas, entry features, consistent street tree canopies, thematic pedestrian lighting, improved transit stations, and continuous bike lanes. The plan also identifies realities of a multi-phased project including material standards, detailed cost estimates and realistic phasing options. The support of the plan and the process is best illustrated through the words of the County Redevelopment Manager, Jennie Bloebaum “You guys have done a tremendous job! We have been blown away throughout the process.”
