Freedom Park   back | previous | next

Located adjacent to Freedom Middle School in one of Modesto's fast growing neighborhoods, Freedom Park received its name as a memorial to the events that occurred on September 11th 2001. Working with the City of Modesto and the neighborhood through a series of well attended workshops, Callander Associates has designed an 8.1 acre park that builds upon the ideals that "Freedom" represents. This provides a place where the neighborhood can remember and/or honor what signifies freedom to them.

Several details throughout the park serve to enforces this patriotic theme. These details include a sandblasted medallion containing a quote from Frankilin D. Roosevelt, stars and stripe patterns in the concrete walkways, and red and white rubber surfacing at the play areas. The water play area also includes a colored concrete enhanced stars and stripes paving pattern and specifically selected pattern of ground spray elements that suggest the inspiring bursts of a fireworks show.
