The first phase of the 25 acre “San
Mateo Centre” development included two mid-rise office buildings
sharing a large, sunken courtyard. At the center of the courtyard
stands a twenty-foot high brightly painted, metal sculpture
by artist Julia Lord. The water feature around the sculpture
was designed by Callander Associates and consists of a semicircular
cantilevered upper pool, which cascades as a single sheet
of water into a sixty-foot diameter lower pool. The water
serves as a backdrop to the sculpture and a buffer to the
noise of the nearby freeway traffic. |
