Sifting and sorting through a host
of the neighborhood's perceived issues and concerns was one
of many tasks Callander Associates' staff successfully completed
for the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District. Callander
Associates' role in the project included design development,
permitting, construction document preparation, and construction
review. Traffic engineering services were provided by an engineer
as subconsultant.
Placement of the trail head improvements required great care
due to the extreme sensitivity of the affected land parcel
and its importance to the surrounding community. The driveway
location underwent a thorough evaluation to ensure minimal
impacts on traffic and safety.
Of special note was the extensive town review process, which
included numerous reviews in front of the Architectural Review
Board. A creative and thoughtful design process, including
site planning, was required to obtain the approval of the
Town. Other project components included railings, signage,
gates, trail construction, and native plantings. In the end,
grant funding was retained, permits were issued, utility lines
were relocated, and the public gained a strategic access to
this 1,302 acre open space. |
