How do you maintain quality control
of a 16 acre, $3.2 million, sand based sports field complex
on a landfill and keep the land developer, the City of Belmont
and the project landscape architects (RHAA) on the same page?
Callander Associates staff, who had previously successfully
managed other complex shoreline projects, was selected by
the developer, with the City's concerns to provide this critical
level of control to the City's premiere sports facility. The
site's history as a landfill atop its Bay mud geological history
presented a unique challenge during the construction phase.
Both Callander Associates1 and the project civil engineering
staff, BKF Engineers, closely collaborated with staff, with
a variety of sub-consultants, and RHAA to see the project
successfully through the construction phase. Sand based athletic
fields, light pole foundations, a two story masonry recreation
building and a 120’ long prefabricated pedestrian bridge
were some of the most interesting elements to be monitored
during the process.
