Callander Associates worked closely
with a committee of users and several consultants to develop
construction plans for this theater renovation. The gala opening
was highlighted by the remarks of Olivia de Haviland, for
whose mother the theater is named. “I first noticed
the seats, proper theater seats, 800 of them planted straight
up the hillside. I looked again and could not fail to perceive
how sensitively and carefully the changes had been made. The
Linden trees left standing. The original shape of the stage
perfectly preserved. The fieldstone so wisely chosen for the
walls and steps. The grace and discreteness of the railings.
My mother would certainly be beaming with approval.” |
