City Park Soccer Field   back | previous | next

The idea for a lighted all-weather synthetic turf soccer field at City Park began to gain momentum as the City recognized the unmet field needs of the community. Centrally located City Park would serve as an ideal location for this new facility. The proposed soccer field is complementary with the existing lighted fields for baseball and softball at City Park. The City contracted with Callander Associates in the summer of 2006 to assist in the development of construction documents. A rapid design development phase was undertaken to address issues not specifically dealt with in the existing master plan. Challenges such as provisions for fire access, improved pedestrian and vehicular circulation were addressed and resolved. Mature eucalyptus trees surround the project site and provided additional challenges. Grading for the field and the parking lot needed to respect these large and beautiful trees to remain. The project is slated for completion in 2007, providing the community with a greatly enhanced soccer facility at City Park that can be used after sunset and during almost any rainfall event.
