Callander Associates San Mateo office
will host the American
Society of Landscape Architects Northern California Chapter
Open House on July 17, 2003 from 7-9pm. Selected projects
on display for review will include:
Rails to Trails
- Four California Projects
Rails to trails projects provide truly unique recreational
and commuting opportunities, since abandoned rail lines often
link important residential, commercial, and industrial centers.
Not all projects of this type follow the same pattern of conception.
This session will explore the differences of four major rails
to trails projects in California; the Monterey Recreation
Trail (Monterey), Tidewater Bikeway (Manteca), Virginia Corridor
(Modesto), and BART Linear Park (South San Francisco). The
presentation will give an overview of these projects as well
as provide information and experiences that can be applied
directly to your projects.
Parks and Recreation
- Various Projects
This display will represent various park and recreation projects
around the Bay Area and Sacramento/Valley regions, both built
and in the planning stages. Projects will include Gleason
Park and Neighborhood Revitalization Plan (Stockton), Salida
School and Park Campus (Salida), Lyle Park (Menlo Park), and
SSF Sculpture Garden (South San Francisco)
Landfill Closure Projects
What’s involved in developing recreational opportunities
on top of a closed landfill? Find out during a display and
discussion on various technical, design, and construction
issues encountered during the development of Bayside Park
(Burlingame) and current planning efforts with Singleton Landfill
(San José).
Streetscape and Urban Design
Creating a sense of place with downtown revitalization and
streetscape projects. Review of three downtown streetscape
projects Hesperian Corridor (San Lorenzo), Hayward Downtown
(Hayward), and Laurel Streetscape (San Carlos). Discuss how
design concepts were generated, community outreach techniques,
unique construction implications, and more. |
