Dover Park wins CPRS Award in Neighborhood Planning!   back | previous | next

Dover Park in Fairfield, California was awarded a 2009 California Park and Recreation Society (CPRS) Achievement Award in Neighborhood Park Planning.

The City of Fairfield's Building Great Neighborhoods (BGN) team identified the area surrounding Dover Park as a cornerstone project to help turn around this diverse neighborhood. The BGN process helps residents invest in their neighborhood through civic participation and partnership. Callander Associates worked with the City throughout the community outreach and design process to restore this neighborhood gem. Improvements included: rehabilitation of the ponds, provision of all-weather concrete paths, updating the safety lighting, installation of cameras, renovation of the existing shade shelter, and the addition of a new toddler play structure and new site furnishings. The significance of the Dover Park revitalization is more than a facelift, but a truly empowering experience for the residents to become involved in the renovation of this once neglected park into a clean and safe place for families to play, socialize, and exercise.
