The American Society of Landscape Architects
(ASLA) celebrated its centennial anniversary by honoring with
centennial medallions those places in the environment
“…that have inspired their communities, shared
their serenity, and contributed to our culture. We want to
recognize these national contributions, as well as significant
local contributions, by hundreds of landscapes all across
America.”
Landscapes selected by the ASLA included New York City’s
Central Park, San Francisco’s Ghirardelli Square, Sea
Ranch, and the Monterey
Peninsula Recreation Trail. The City of Monterey, the
Monterey Regional Peninsula Park and Open Space District,
other project partners and Callander Associates as the project’s
landscape architect, collaborated for a four-year period to
provide the Monterey Peninsula with this outstanding example
of the designed environment. This multi-phased, inter-agency
project carefully and thoughtfully incorporated stakeholder
and public input into an urban waterfront trail corridor that
continues to serve the public in ways far beyond the original
goals and vision. |
