Parks District and County forge ahead with Firestone Park   back | previous | next

In a 5-0 vote on July 22, the County of Sacramento Board of Supervisors approved the master plan and negative declaration for Firestone Park. The decision wrapped up a 6 month public outreach, master planning and environmental review period. The project is now beginning the construction document phase and is scheduled to begin construction in early to mid 2004.

Located in the high growth area of northern Sacramento County, the 7 acre park will provide the neighborhood with activities to match its diverse population. Amenities will include:

  • Little league baseball field
  • AYSO U16 soccer field
  • Restroom facilities
  • 2 half basketball courts
  • Picnic shelter adjacent to two playgrounds
  • Two lighted tennis courts
  • Perimeter path
  • Passive spaces
  • Rolling landforms
  • Lots of shade trees

A special site feature to note is it’s connection to the adjacent Olive Grove Elementary School. The Parks District and School District came together to create a seamless transition of school and park open spaces. The result is the creation of an 11 acre facility in the heart of the new neighborhood for old and young to gather.
