Over 230 trail and greenway agencies,
enthusiasts, and planners participated in the 20th California
Trails and Greenway Conference in March. The Folsom location
provided an excellent opportunity for Callander Associates’
Rancho Cordova staff to present an intense work session, for
over 35 participants, on the planning and design of complex
trail and greenway projects. Ben Woodside and Erik Smith,
principals and seasoned trail and greenway design professionals,
outlined a number of strategies to maintain project momentum
and artfully navigate through the process. Two very different
trail/greenway projects were used to highlight a variety of
techniques and approaches for moving forward with your project.
Half
Moon Bay’s coastal trails represented a small, rural,
coastal environment with a number of environmental and grant
issues. The Tillotson
Greenway site for the Southgate Park and Recreation District
illustrated an entirely different, larger, and suburban development
related context.
This marked the second year in which Callander Associates
has assisted the conference in presenting options and strategies
for participants to move forward with their more challenging
projects. Last years presentation
by principals Peter Callander and Brian Fletcher focused on
various rails to trails issues, again using specific implemented
projects as illustrations. Compact discs of both presentations
are available by request.
