Callander Associates is committed to supporting the professional
development of it’s staff. Continuing education is offered
as an opportunity to master new knowledge and skills and achieve
personal goals. Learning is tailored to individual interests and
may include self study, group activities, or formal coursework.
Examples of previous activities include:
July 2006 - Construction Site Tour
The entire San Mateo staff took a break from the design studio and
toured one of the five concurrent athletic field projects under
construction for the Campbell Union School District. The firm’s
full time construction manager hosted the tour and provided a wealth
of anecdotal “on the job” experience. Even though construction
costs are about $11 million; the staff had to creatively deal with
budget control. The sites are all essentially topographic bowls,
with planting and stadium seating occupying the slopes down to the
flat track and football fields.
The new artificial turf fields and all weather surfaced tracks
were designed to meet the District’s rigorous athletic field
program and diminishing maintenance resource. As part of the design
process, Callander Associates staff, working closely with our engineering
subconsultants, resolved off site flows, provided on site sustainable
storm water storage capacity, and fulfilled a challenging host of
storm water regulatory constraints.
All of the staff picked up a number of pointers!! All of us were
also exceptionally pleased to see the sustainability concepts being
implemented and again realized that the vision is being supported
by the details!!
